5,665 carat Emerald for sale

As reported in City AM (Tue 30 Oct 2018)

A massive emerald found in a Zambian mine earlier this month will go on sale in Singapore in November.

The 5,655 carat Inkalamu Emerald, named after the Bemba word for lion, will be sold to a group of 45 hand-picked potential bidders in a Singapore auction.

It was discovered at Kagem, the world’s largest emerald mine which is owned by Gemfields and the Zambian government.

Gemfields gemmologist Elena Basaglia said: “It’s difficult to estimate how many individual gems will be cut from Inkalamu, but the cutting expertise of Gemfields’ auction partners will mean that this gemstone will make its mark in the history books of exceptional gemstones.

“This lion’s resulting offspring – ‘The Pride of Inkalamu’ so to speak - will continue the legacy for generations to come!”
